🌲The Trail
The hike is wide and forested, with only gentle elevation, so it feels relaxed the whole way. Honestly, I’d call it a great option for families or anyone new to hiking in the Rockies—it’s approachable and accessible without being too short.
When I went in June, the peaks around the lake still had some snow, which looked beautiful against the dark cliffs and forest. The trail itself wasn’t especially scenic, but reaching the lake at the end was worth it.
🌊 At the Lake
Boom Lake is big, quiet, and bordered by mountains. The shoreline is made up of large rocks and boulders, but it’s still a nice spot to admire the views.
Because it’s accessible and close to Banff, the trail is popular—so don’t expect solitude, especially in summer. However, if you take the time to walk farther along the lakeshore, you can definitely find a spot all to yourself.
⚠️ Note: The trail can be muddy after rain, and there are lots of bugs 🦟 bring bug spray!

✅ Why Choose Boom Lake?
• 30-minute drive from Banff – easy to reach by car 🚗
• Low effort for a rewarding mountain lake view
• Great for families and beginner hikers 👨👩👧👦
Boom Lake may not be the most dramatic or hidden hike in the Rockies, but if you want an easy nature outing close to Banff with a classic alpine lake at the end, it’s a solid pick.
